Foam Roofs

Home: Roofing: Foam Roofs

Foam roofs are fully adhered roof systems with excellent resistance to Wind-Uplift forces. This is a sprayed application by Permax® that typically is applied over existing roofs and weighs 1 lb. per square foot.

Permax
roofing systems are renewable systems. They can be restored by an additional application of coating within 12 to 18 years on average after the original installation.

Features of the Permax foam roofs are:

  • A seamless system
  • Reduced energy cost
  • Lightweight
  • Easy maintenance
  • Faster, cleaner roofing job
How Resin Technology's Polyurethane Foam Rates:

Below are some of the past projects completed by Louis and Riparetti, Inc. These projects showcase the high quality work guaranteed by Louis and Riparetti. More projects are continuously being added to our portfolio, so check back frequently for the latest projects.

Installs in Four Easy Steps
1. Prepare the Surface
Remove all loose gravel and dirt using a power vacuum and power broom. Remove any blisters in the existing roof. Then prime all surfaces to receive polyurethane foam insulation
2. Apply Foam Insulation
Spray apply a layer of foam to the specified thickness. Spray flashings and penetration according to RTC's guide specifications.
3. Spray Apply the Elastomeric Coating
Spray the tough, elastomeric coating onto the foam surface. To insure uniform and complete coverage, the coating is applied in two coats using contrasting colors.
4. Apply Roofing Granules (Optional)
Finally, spread a layer of roofing granules onto the wet elastomeric topcoat to provide additional durability and sun resistance. Walk surfaces may be installed at this time to protect the roof around equipment installations and roof landing areas.

Over 50 Million Square Feet Installed

Eisenhower Medical Center
Rancho Mirage, California
205,000 Square Feet

Contractors have successfully used Sprayed Polyurethane Roofing Systems (SPRS) for the past 30 years. Resin Technology Company (RTC Division of the Henry Company) is a leader in the SPRS roofing and coating industry, offering top quality materials and many years of experience. More than 50 million square feet of RTC roofing systems have been installed by qualified applicators in most Western states.

RTC's durable and reliable Permax roofing system has proved ideal for industrial, commercial and residential applications and this unique insulating system maintains millions of square feet of wine and heated fuel oil storage tanks at temperatures just right for their contents.

Dual Protection Against Leaks
The primary function of a roof is to keep moisture out of the building. The RTC Permax system assures a double layer of moisture protection.

First, a layer of closed cell polyurethane foam forms a thick, seamless barrier to prevent water penetration. Then, an elastomeric coating forms an additional shield against moisture and offers protection from the intense rays of the sun. If the elastomeric coating becomes damaged, the layer of the closed cell foam will still resist water penetration and migration

This unmatched dual protection makes the Permax System a leading choice among building owners and specifiers.

RTC Advantages
RTC offers other important advantages besides quality materials and long experience.

  • A Seamless System
Unlike conventional built roofing systems, the Permax System has no seams or laps where leaks often develop. In fact, a Permax roof is self-flashing, effectively sealing all penetrations and wall junctions.
  • Reduced Energy Costs
Permax (SPRS) is one of the most effective insulation materials available today. The material's insulating properties are further enhanced by the system's special elastomeric coating which effectively reflect the sun's rays. Users have reported reductions in energy costs as great as 30 percent.
Permax insulation on wine or oil tanks returns owners investment over time by reducing operating expenses.
  • Lightweight
A Permax roof weighs approximately 100 pounds per 100 square feet, compared with tar-and-gravel roofing which may weigh as much as 800 pounds on the same area, or with a ballasted single-ply roof which may weigh as much as 1,000 pounds per 100 square feet.
  • Easy Maintenance
When a leak occurs in a built-up or single-ply roof, water may travel some distance between piles before it enters the building, making it difficult to locate the source of the leak. Rock, finishing or ballast may further hide the source. Water may not travel laterally through a Permax roof and any minor damage can be quickly repaired using appropriate elastomeric caulk.
  • A Faster, Cleaner Roofing Job
A Permax roof for even a large and complex project can be completed in a very short time and with minimal interference in normal business activity. In many cases, a Permax roof may be applied over the existing roof, avoiding a costly 'tear-off' and disposal.
  • Design Flexibility
A Permax roof easily conforms to unusual shapes and configurations such as domes and curved concrete decks. Several municipal sports arenas have specified (SPRS) roofing systems because of their light weight. A Permax application adheres to a vertical surface and fills in low areas in an existing roof structure.
  • Metal Roof Applications
A leaking metal roof is well known to be a tough roofing problem. A conventional metal roof or coating often leaks because of the expansion and contraction of the metal with changing temperatures. Because a Permax roof insulates from the outside, expansion and contraction are eliminated, thereby reducing stress and wear. Condensation and resulting corrosion on the underside of the metal roof is also eliminated or reduced by the external insulation. Many metal agricultural buildings are protected by Permax roofs.

  • Approvals
Many RTC systems have been tested for fire safety and are listed by the Underwriters' Laboratory, Factory Mutual Research Corporation and various model building codes list these roof systems over both combustible and noncombustible decks.
  • Qualified Applicators
Your confidence in a Permax roof is assured by the qualified applicator. A Permax applicator is backed by RTC warranty programs available to owners of larger commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Why choose a Permax Roof?
A Permax roof is a monolithic, seamless structure that adheres to horizontal, vertical and over head surfaces. It is self flashing, fills low areas caused by roof sagging or construction faults. Plus, it provides insulation that can substantially reduce energy costs. You can specify a Permax roof with confidence
